Laptop Adaptors
Laptops, popularly known as notebooks or a notebook computer, run on just one main battery. They can also run from an external AC/DC adapter which charges the battery attached to the laptop and supply power to it as well. In the event that there is a power failure, a three volt cell backup is in place on most laptops.
In an AC Power Adapter, there is a direct current produced from a power outlet with an Alternating Current (AC). Popularly known as an AC Adapter, this portable device when attached to a laptop uses Direct Current (DC) and is applicable even to rechargeable batteries. A ‘DC’ adapter is usually recommended due to the electric charge flowing from a low direction to a high potential one. In the case of an AC Power Adapter, attaching them to a laptop can sometimes prove to be hazardous due to varying magnitudes of the flow of current which can lead to internal damage and could catch fire as well.
To try and maximize connectivity, many laptops have internal modems and standard serial, parallel, and PS/2 ports so that they become convenient to work away from the work place and on long journeys. These adapters are popularly known as laptop battery chargers. These adapters provide better laptop mobility and give you freedom from power chords. In India, Sony markets all laptop adapters from original to replacement adapters which are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) compatible.
Car and airplane adaptors accept DC Adaptors making them compatible to power up a laptop. If you own a 12V DC Adapter, they can be used in other vehicles with similar plug points like trucks and vans.
People who often went overseas had problems due to their adapters being incompatible with the sockets. This led to multinational laptop companies coming out with the universal power adapter which works with most main power supplies worldwide. The accepted range is between a 100 and 240 volts, making it a truly universal product. With laptop companies building them to match various specifications, their utilization of power defers as well. Having various tips for adapters allows them the flexibility of supplying power along with the right amount of voltage to various laptops at one time.
