HCL Laptop
HCL India, fondly known as India’s first ‘IT garage start-ups’, markets itself as a leading innovator and distributor of an amalgamation of systems and distribution of various technologies and their products in India. HCL proudly claims that they designed and developed the first indigenous micro computer around the same time as Apple did. They are a popular Indian brand for computers and laptops.
HCL has a wide market overseas as well with businesses spreading across 18 countries. Some of their products that have been well received in the market are HCL Beanstalk, HCL Busybee and lots more. Today HCL is trying to accomplish in the laptop sector what TATA has done with the introduction of the Nano car. With an affordable pricing, HCL Infosystems has brought the cheapest portable PC into the laptop segment.
Trying to cash in on the large portion of the market which has yet to be successfully tapped, the portable PC runs on the Linux operating system and weighs around 1 kg. Sold under the brand name MiLeap, this series will create a whole new segment for cheaper laptops to enter the market as multinationals and other domestic players will try to compete with this latest market buzz maker. The series features MiLeap-X selling at sub-Rs 14,000 and MiLeap-Y going for Rs 30,000 as it offers Windows Vista in place of Linux.
Expecting growth from different parts of India, companies are aware of the huge market that is still out there and reducing costs means these markets can be captured. Drop in pricing and a large number of people wanting to get on the web anytime and anywhere makes laptops sell faster than desktop computers.
HCL India largely focuses on their Indian market and the demand of the Indian people. They focus on three important criteria which are slim, light and powerful. Their aim is to make the slimmest laptops available to Indian consumers, along with the lightest and highly technology oriented personal PCs. These features give HCL a certain edge over the Indian market. With striking and eye-catching laptop colours and a well placed technology, HCL India tries to make a successful niche for itself in the laptop segment.
